Broadband with more va va voom!
We have been in the business of helping others with their IT systems now since 1997. One of our Directors Francis Pledger remembers attending an event back in the late 90’s to launch a new data transfer system. It was hosted by BT at Martlesham and they explained they would shortly be launching a technology which would allow transfer of data at 2Mbs over a standard phone line – it seemed unbelievable, even to an IT professional. This innovative technology was Broadband.
The introduction of Broadband for most, although sadly still not all, has made a significant difference to the way we do business. Previously in the darker days of dial up we were used to waiting for data and emails to flow in and out of our PC’s. Now with Broadband that download time is a flashy 140 times faster than a modem at 8Mb. It makes watching videos, talking to friends and colleagues and remote office working available in a simple, quick and cost effective way. However if you’ve tried to exchange files with the office when working remotely the upload speed with Broadband is much, much slower. Still five times faster than your old modem but still frustratingly a poor reflection of those flashy download times.
