Charity Case Study – Leeway Support

Leeway is a specialist domestic abuse charity.  In 1974 it was one of only three refuges in the country for victims of domestic abuse.  It now supports over 8,000 adults, children and young people every year across Norfolk.

Emma Nurse is their Business & Central Services Manager and part of her role is to oversee the running of their telecoms and IT structure.  “What we like about React is that they are on our wavelength and easy to deal with.  They keep things simple and we know we are getting value for money while getting the efficiencies we need from our IT system.”

Effective data management

While managing costs is important to Leeway, that is not at the expense of investing in new technologies that will save both time and money.  React has introduced a number of different software packages into the organization, including SharePoint, VPN and also a bespoke database management package.

As a result, staff administration time has been cut dramatically.  Activities such as timesheets, holiday requests and staff forms are all managed online, and other important events such as CRB checks are automatically flagged up in good time for staff to take the appropriate action.

“The document management systems are brilliant, and they have enabled us to reduce the amount of paperwork we generate, which is not only better for the environment, it saves us space on physical documents too, as we scan them and keep them on line,” comments Emma.  “It’s much faster and easier to recall them this way and of course they are also more secure.”

Automated back up and disaster recovery

“All of our PCs and laptops, including those in satellite offices, are centrally linked and automatically backed up, so we don’t even have to think about it. It gives us total peace of mind; if we ever need to go back to a previous backup we can pull it up instantly, restoring the information to the local PC in minutes.  Also, if we had a fire or a flood with our previous system we would lose all of our data but now we don’t have to worry.

Remote IT support

“When a computer does crash, we don’t panic any more, we just say ‘better phone React’.  They talk us through what we need to do, and can also log in and operate our PC’s remotely.  It’s great, you can simply go for a cup of tea and when you come back the problem’s fixed!”

Going the extra mile…

Another service Emma finds useful is the hardware re-allocation. “React also changes all the settings and reassigns our hardware – for example if we need laptops for new staff they even set up new passwords for them.

A personal service

“React seem to be big enough to handle anything we throw at them, yet small enough that we know the team personally.  We like the fact that we put a face to the voice on the end of the phone.  They do things we’ve never had from other IT suppliers, for example the Directors regularly come and see us and keep us informed.  I like the monthly email newsletters from Francis too, which more often than not feature some really useful information.”
